Earlier in the day Elyse Villani (52 off 37) and Meg Lanning (52 off 49) powered Australia to what was the highest score ever achieved in a Women’s World T20 final.
It looked set to be an even bigger total at one stage, with the Stars picking up just one run off the final over of the innings from Deandra Dottin (2-33 from four).
Australia lost opener Alyssa Healy in the second over for 5 to off-spinner Hayley Matthews, before taking control, with Villani and Lanning combining for a 77-run second-wicket partnership.
Villani, who now boasts the first ever half-century in a Women’s final, was caught off a slower ball from Dottin, who also took the wicket of Ellyse Perry (28 off 23).
Lanning was trapped in front by off-spinner Anisa Mohammed, and now shares the record for the highest score in a final with Villani.
