Two children among six dead in head-on collision in Pennsylvania

An SUV crossed into incoming traffic and slammed into a sedan in the Pennsylvania city of Kane on Saturday, killing six people, including two children, police said Sunday.

The 2005 Jeep Liberty, driven by Kathy Douglas, 36, crossed the double yellow lines dividing traffic lanes and barreled into the front of an approaching 2004 Pontiac Bonneville, according to a Pennsylvania State Police report.

All four occupants of the Pontiac — Gary Beimel, 62; Elaine Beimel, 55; David Cuneo, 54; and Florence Donachy, 81 — died in the collision.

A 6-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl traveling in Douglas’ SUV were also pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Douglas and a 10-year-old boy in her car sustained serious injuries and were flown from the scene to trauma centers, according to police.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fatal collision, but the police officer assigned to the investigation, Trooper Roger McCloskey, told the Associated Press he believes Douglas was at fault and may face charges.
