A bride-to-be is battling for life and seven of her friends are critically injured after their hen party minibus was involved in an horrific crash on the M62.

Stefanie Firth, 24, from South Elmsall, West Yorkshire, is understood to be in intensive care suffering from serious spinal injuries with fiance Gary Leafe by her bedside just weeks before the pair were due to marry.

One of her close friends, first year nursing student Beth Jones, 18, was killed in the smash which happened when their minibus, travelling to Liverpool for the hen do, collided with a Farmfoods lorry.

The lorry driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and bailed pending further inquiries.

The minibus, which was carrying 20 passengers, turned onto its side after leaving the main carriageway and going up a slip road when it collided with a Farmfoods lorry driving in the same direction.

Several of the injured women were airlifted to hospital and seven are described as being in a serious but stable condition.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire police said a further woman ‘remains in intensive care and is described as very poorly’.

Miss Jones was in her first year at Leeds University studying to become a nurse.

A school friend, who studied A-Level dance with Bethany, told the Mail: ‘She was an amazingly talented singer, actress and dancer. She was so lovely and had a smile for everyone.
