Prostitutes Now Have to Use Meter To Do Business In This Town

Officials in the German city of Bonn just introduced a prostitution parking meter, where hookers pay $8.60 to receive a ticket good for one night’s work on the streets.

Prostitution is legal in Germany, but officials say collecting taxes from streetwalkers is far more difficult than from women working in brothels.
They see the meter as the answer.

"Thanks to this new method, we will be able to tax them in all fairness with the others," Bonn city spokeswoman Isabelle Klotz told AFP.

City officials expected the flat-on-your-back tax to generate about $288,000 in new income. The hookers feed six euros into the street meters, and out pops their pass for the evening.

Any working girls found on the streets without a metered ticket face hefty fines. The tickets are good from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with no limit on customers.

The system went into effect this week in an industrial section of the city known as a meeting ground for hookers and their customers.

Authorities believe about 200 women work as prostitutes in Bonn.
