AIDS Foudation of Barbados 1st Biennal Awards Ceremony

The AIDS Foundation of Barbados held its 1st Biennial Awards Ceremony and Cocktail last evening at the Sandy Lane Hotel.

Chairman of the Foundation Colin Brewer in making his remarks says while the Association has come a long way, there are still hurdles that they are trying to over come.  He says the association will continue to promote abstinence since it is still essential and critical at this time. 

He says while they continue in their fight, there is still an increase in the rate of the virus in Barbados, with 80% of the affected belonging to the core working group.

Minister of Education Hon Ronald Jones in delivering the feature address, applauded the foundation for their "sterling work’" over the past 8 years in sensitizing  the private sector about the threat of HIV/AIDS, and persuading more companies to join the battle.

Between March 2007 and the present, the membership of the AIDS Foundation has grown to 31 private sector member companies who invest in the foundation, with both financial and non financial commitments.

A number of companies received Business of Excellence Award last evening for their contribution to Workplace Policy, Agency Support, Media Support and Community Involvement among others.

The Awardees: Accra Beach Hotel and Spa, Lime Barbados, Goddard Enterprise, Scotia Bank, Pricewater House Coopers, Royal Bank of Canada, Cot Media Group, Island Property Limited, Satya Enterprises, Cave Shepherd and Company Limited and Nation Corporation.
